Susan Crook

Susan “Samm” Crook, 67, of Rushville, went home to her Lord & Savior at 8:38 am on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born on March 21, 1958, the daughter of the late Robert “Bob” Edwards. Susan married her soulmate, David Crook on September 24, 1998, in Saline County, Illinois and he preceded her in death on October 19, 2012.

Susan lived her entire life in or near Schuyler County. She was a spirited woman and always fought hard for causes that she believed in such as support for military veterans, homelessness and indigenous rights. This grit and strength she possessed was passed onto her children. Susan enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, motorcycle rides, true crime television, playing rummy, reading and researching her family history and ancestry, traveling and sightseeing.

She is survived by her children; Robert Norris of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Chalea Hutchinson of Missouri, Micah (Michael Hillyer) Green of Rushville, Brian Crook & Laura Hatch, a brother; Joe Edwards, three beloved grandchildren; Lee Norris of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Lana Watkins of Rushville & Maxziel (Nicholas Damon) Rootes of Elmyra, New York, and by several cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Susan was preceded in death by her sisters; Diane C. Edwards, Terrie Loughary & Tresa Bender and by two brothers; Steve & Martin Edwards. Susan will be dearly missed.

In accordance with Susan’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. The Triplett & Wood Funeral Home of Rushville has been entrusted with the care and arrangements. Memorial contributions in Susan’s memory are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
