Eldon Gale Vaughn, 92, of Rushville, passed away at 9:16 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born on September 23, 1932 in Camden, Illinois, the son of Melvin and Hazel (Anderson) Vaughn. He married Doris Irene (Estes) Vaughn on February 26, 1955 at the Rushville Free Methodist Church. After 65 years together, she preceded him in death on December 13, 2020. He is survived by his four sons, Gale Vaughn and wife Jaci of Jacksonville, Gary Vaughn and wife Debbie, Ronald Vaughn and wife Annette, Donald Vaughn and wife Angel, all of Rushville, and his two daughters, Beth Stambaugh and husband Neal of Browning, and Vicki Vaughn of Table Grove. He is survived by fourteen grandchildren, Drew Vaughn and wife Jenny, Brian Vaughn and wife Lindsay, Branden Vaughn, Sarah Vaughn, Amy Ward and husband Terry, Nic Vaughn and fiancée Natalia Gathmann, Ryu Vaughn, Zak “Leo” Vaughn, Tia Vaughn and fiancée Jordan Hynek, Ady Vaughn (Christian West), Raven Vaughn, Shon Vaughn, Dawson Vaughn, Jenna Wooldridge and husband Adam. He is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren, Jacqueline, Eduardo, Roberto and Carolina Vaughn, Krista and Austin Vaughn, Christian and Gabbie Ward, Trevor Perry, Amelia Ward, Hadley and Aurora Vaughn, Benji and Damian Hynek and Jaxson Maltby, along with three great, great grandchildren, Arya and Kamdyn Coulter and Alayla Vaughn. He is also survived by one brother in law, Gene Ralston and one sister in law, Betty Paisley, husband Larry, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Beth Vaughn, his parents and all of his siblings. Sterling (Esther) Vaughn, Maxine (Henry) Sargent, Willard (Irilla) Vaughn, Dorothy (Bob) Small, Keith (Bonnie) Vaughn, Vivian Ruth Vaughn, Infant Brother and Shirley Ralston. He is also preceded in death by his in-laws Mary Frances (Russell) Cunningham and Joan (Lloyd) Rice. Eldon attended the United Methodist Church in Camden with his family, until he married Irene, at which time he became a member of the Rushville Free Methodist Church. He attended school in Camden through his sophomore year and then attended Rushville High School, graduating with the class of 1950. After high school he was drafted into the military, serving in Korea from 1953 – 1955 with the United States Army. He was a life time farmer and had Vaughn Turkey Farm for many years. He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for fourteen years and Camden FS for several years. He was most passionate about farming, chickens and turkeys, anything antique and gardening. He was happiest giving the produce he raised to others. He also enjoyed making sorghum, maple syrup and ice cream to share! He mastered the recipe for smoked turkey. He loved horses, and the game of horseshoes. At the age of 17, he was awarded the Illinois State Fair Junior Horseshoe Championship. Above all, he loved being with his family and visiting with friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25 from 4:00-7:00 at Triplett & Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hope Church in Rushville. Memorials may be given to the Rushville-Industry High School FFA.
