Doris May Carey, 80, of Rushville, passed away at 1:45 am on Monday, September 15, 2025, at her residence.
She was born on June 12, 1945, in Springfield, the daughter of the late Frank & Angeline (Foley) Sanders. Doris married Melvin Carey on October 19, 1967, in Springfield and he survives.
Doris was a past member of the Elliott Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield and a Women of the Moose member #506 in Rushville for many years. She was a great cook, one of her best dishes according to Melvin was spaghetti. Doris also loved to watch cooking shows on television. She enjoyed taking ranger rides and being outdoors. Doris liked having company over and especially enjoyed her time with family. She gave the best hugs.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, Melvin, Doris is survived by two daughters; Rhonda (Neil) Roberts of Mt. Sterling & Melanie (Mark) Hebenstreit of Camden, a son; Jeffrey Carey of Elkhart, Indiana, eight grandchildren; Carinne Perdew, Devin Carey, Kayla Paisley, Grant Hebenstreit, Shanna Roberts, Jakob Hebenstreit, Kylie DeWitt & Kiana Hebenstreit, nine great grandchildren, a sister; Dolores (John) Joplin of Springfield and by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by three brothers; Frank, Harold & Tony Sanders and by two sisters; Angie Matson & Elizabeth Ulinski.
Memorial services honoring Doris’s life will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Triplett & Wood Funeral Home of Rushville. Bro. Matt Haberman will preside. Visitation will be held from 4:30 pm until the time of services. Private inurnment will be accorded following services. Another informal celebration of Doris’s life will be held at a later date and will be announced. Memorial contributions in memory of Doris are suggested to McDonough County Hospice.
